The best advice that I can give somebody who is interested in playing Texas Hold'em is to be patient, and play the numbers. This is especially true in low-limit poker.
Hold'em starts with each player receiving 2 face down cards that only you can see. These are called your hole-cards. After these are dealt out, there is a round of betting. Next comes the flop. These are three community cards layed face up in the middle. Every player uses these cards. After the flop is a second round of betting. Next comes the turn card. This is a 4th community card. Another round of betting, then comes the river card, or the last card. This is often refered to as 5th street. A final round of betting here, then the cards are turned over. The person with the best 5 card hand wins. You can play 0, 1, or 2 cards from your hand to make the best 5 card hand. Whoever has the best hand at the end, or showdown, wins the pot.
